State opens new treatment center in Las Vegas
SANTA FE – The New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute (NMBHI) announces the opening of the Epi-Duran Substance Abuse Treatment facility to provide substance use treatment for people in need of both detox and residential care.
The 16,340 square-foot facility, located in Las Vegas across the street from the NMBHI, is scheduled to open on Aug. 24.
The Epi-Duran program will build on existing behavioral health expertise at the Las Vegas complex and offer 20 beds for residential treatment and 8 beds for detox treatment. The program will benefit from established resources at NMBHI, including vocational rehabilitation and horticulture programs. It will provide more than 30 new jobs to the community.
The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) facility was created with a combination of state capital outlay, county and federal funding and has been in the works for about 10 years. Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, U.S. Sen. Ben Ray Luján and the Santa Miguel County Commissioners were instrumental in securing the funding.
“We are grateful to the Governor’s Office, State Legislature and San Miguel County for entrusting us to provide this much-needed treatment,” said Tim Shields, hospital administrator for NMBHI. “We are committed to providing evidence-based care to help New Mexicans in their recovery process.”
In advance of the formal opening, NMBHI will hold an open house for members of the community and media at the Epi-Duran facility, located at 3112 Hot Springs Blvd. in Las Vegas, from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18.
